CONTACT of Mercer to Honor ‘Unsung Heroes’ at Virtual Annual Gala

PENNINGTON, NJ, – CONTACT of Mercer, a non-profit network of telephone hotline, online chat, and daily telephone outreach services for senior citizens who live alone will hold the organization’s Unsung Heroes Gala on Friday, November 13 from 7:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m.

This year’s event will honor local “heroes” who have gone above and beyond to assist others amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the pandemic, CONTACT of Mercer will hold the Unsung Heroes Gala via virtual online videoconference. The non-profit organization is excited and grateful that acclaimed actress Jill Whelan (Vicki from the Love Boat; and star of her new comedic series Take it From the Top) will be the Mistress of Ceremonies.

“For more than 44 years, CONTACT of Mercer has been there for those who are in emotional turmoil, thinking about suicide, experiencing loneliness, or facing the challenges of mental illness,” said President and member, Board of Directors Pasquale Colavita, Jr. “Our organization is vital to those in need of support and reassurance and the Gala is vitally important to us because the money we raise enables us the opportunity to assist even more individuals who are in crisis.”

CONTACT of Mercer Executive Director Eleanor K. Letcher, M.Ed, CSW said “With so much uncertainty about personal safety and health as well as the economic impact of Covid-19, hope for the future can be fleeting and distressing. For some, the build-up of anxiety, depression, stress, loneliness, and isolation can result in suicidal crisis. While we wish the gala could be in-person we understand the health implications related to the pandemic. Still, we are not ready to let COVID-19 stop us from working to meet our mission.” This year’s Unsung Heroes Gala honorees will be revealed at the gala.
